Wrong Fit: Miranda

Oh, Miranda. When will Victoria's Secret stop squishing you into 32Cs?

If these two bras were put on correctly, Miranda would have some crazy quad-boob going on.
Her current measurements from Victoria's Secret are: 34-24-34. So apparently they would like us to believe that her ribcage is 8 inches bigger than her waist. What a sight that would be. Her measurements are actually not that far off from Marilyn Monroe's (35-22-35), just not as extreme an hourglass and 4 inches taller.

I don't think I've ever seen Miranda Kerr without a tonne of cleavage, even when she's not modelling for VS.
In person, she is TINY, so it is a little unbelievable that a 32C is even close to being a good fit. With a 24 inch waist, her ribcage won't be much bigger than that and she could probably fit a 26FF (possibly even a G, but it's hard to tell whether it's just her cleavage making her look bigger than a 26FF).Seeing as she is the Ambassador for Young Women at David Jones, I really would like to see her in a well fitted bra and be a good role model for young women here in Australia (and elsewhere).

Wrong Fit: Christina

Christina Hendricks is one of my favourite actresses/people. I identify with her, admire her and I think she has great style and grace. But a 38DDD/E? Definitely not. I've no doubt she has many different bra sizes in her collection as her size fluctuates, but if she has a 38E, she has been conned by an inexperienced and/or ignorant sales assistant into buying a bra that is too small in the cup and too large in the band.

If I were in this dress, with this fit, I would feel so incredibly uncomfortable. Who wants that deep crevasse of cleavage from the girls being so squished? You can even see that the breast tissue is out of the dress under her arms.

It also looks like she has a better fitting bra here, but it's hard to tell. It doesn't look as if she has cleavage up to her chin underneath the dress, so it may be that she is wearing the correct size. I would guess her size to be about a 30J/32HH, but that's just a guess based on our similar ribcage and my bust being a cup size (or two) smaller than hers.

If women around the world think Christina is an E cup, no wonder they can't fathom that they could be one.

Wrong Fit: Marilyn

It's easy to look at me and believe I am "bigger than a D cup". For my breast volume to be a D, the band size would have to be 44 inches around (Aus 22) instead of 32 (an Aus 10). As we know, cup sizes are relevant to band size, so a D cup (or even G cup) will look completely different on a smaller frame.

There have been many articles and blog posts alike that have debunked the myth that Marilyn Monroe was a size 16, as a size 16 had completely different measurements 50 years ago. In current times, she would be an Australian size 6 or an American 2 (although I have read that her clothes won't even zip up on a size 2 mannequin because it was too big for the dress).

As an extreme hourglass, her measurements were, according to her dressmaker, 35-22-35 (another source puts her as 36-23-37).
Yet apparently she was a 36D. If this was truly the case, her ribcage measurement would be the same measurement as her bust, which would make her an A cup. There is no way that is possible. With a 22-24 inch waist, Marilyn's ribcage was probably around 26 inches at the most, meaning her bra size would have been close to a 26G-GG by today's standards.

The only way to debunk the generalisations of larger busts being a D/DD/E cup is if women realise that our perception of what large cup sizes are is incredibly skewed. Once more women are wearing the right size bra and people are more educated about what bra sizes mean, women will be happier, healthier, more confident and no longer will they squeeze into smaller bras because they "couldn't possibly be a D cup".

Expectation vs. Reality

I can't remember where I picked up this picture, but I think it does quite a good job of challenging common misconceptions about cup sizes. Most people would look at the first girl in the set and say she has quite small breasts and may guess she was a B cup. To actually show her in the 32DD size can be mindblowing, as it was for a friend of mine when I showed her this. She currently wears a 36B and her breasts are a similar size, perhaps a tad bigger. She measured herself using the MWB method and it put her at around a 36DD/34E.

To a lot of women, DD/E cups are big, but an F is enormous in mainstream media. This is not always the case, especially in the smaller back sizes. Cup sizes are relative to band sizes, as you can see in this video from Freya.
The customer wears a 36C (Australian 14C) and by no means has an "enormous" bust, but is soon wearing a size 30FF that fits her perfectly.

The beginning of a blog.

So, I know there are plenty of bra and make up blogs, but I've decided to combine them for my own purposes (basically, because I love both things and enjoy looking at reviews myself).

The main reason I have decided to create this blog is that for many years, I was wearing the wrong size bra. I'd had a bad relationship with my breasts since they grew at age 12. I was a 10E when I was 14 and wearing a 12E when I was 15 (although I was probably more a 10FF/G). I got the quadboob a lot, and always assumed there was something wrong with my boobs, and it never occurred to me that there was a bra out there that could fit me like a glove and give me great support and shape. I really wish I had been "enlightened" at an earlier age. Earlier this year, I came across the now infamous MyWifesBusty bra fitting guide on reddit... and to put it simply, I became a new woman. I became obsessed with knowing everything about bra fitting and the styles, cuts and brands that would suit which shapes and I have become a bra fitting enthusiast and have a much healthier relationship with my body (though I'm still getting there!).

Two of my friends have told me that they wear a 32C and 34C. I measured both of these girls (not topless, so not quite properly), and the first was a 26E, the second a 30DD. "There's no way I'm a DD/E cup!" is always the reply. There has become a stigma attached to DD/E cups... apparently they are huge in most people's minds. They're really not, unless someone has a size 38/40 band. I was wearing a 34E for a long time, and I knew it didn't fit well. I always had to wear singlets over it to contain everything and I was always adjusting the band and underwires. Now I wear a 32GG, sometimes 32H and my bras are not nanna bras. There are cute and hot bras out there that will fit you properly, and I intend to make them a little bit more known, especially to girls here in Australia.
